Pachmarhi- Location

Located in the Satpura ranges, Pachmarhi is an pleasant hill station in Madhya Pradesh. Pachmarhi is about 210 kilometres from Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh.

Pachmarhi - History

Pachmarhi was discovered by James Forsyth, captain of Bengal Lancers in 1857. The hill station was once the cantonment of the British. Even today one can find various monument and churches of the British era in Pachmarhi.

Pachmarhi- Sites to Visit

Pachmarhi has a number of tourist attractions that tourists to Pachamarhi can visit. Indira Priyadarshini Point offers stunning views of Pachmarhi. The point was earlier known as Forsyth Point, on the name of James Froysth, who first saw Pachmarhi from this point. Jamuna Prapat is a spectacular fall above the stream. You can enjoy swimming at the various swimming pools above the fall. Dhoopgarh, the highest point in Satpura range presents stunning views of the sunset. It is where you will find most people heading in the evening. Pandav Caves located two kilometres away from Jai Stambha is another interesting tourist destination that one can visit. The other places that one can tour include Handi Khoh, Apsara Vihar, Mahadeo Hill, Jata Shankar, Catholic Church and Bison Lodge. The Bison Lodge was built by Captain Forsyth and is now a local museum.

Pachmarhi - Sites Nearby

Satpura National Park is an ideal place to watch wildlife in its natural habitat. The park was set up in 1981 and covers an area of 524 sq kilometres. The park is home to a rich variety of birds. The wild animals that you get a chance to watch include bison, tigers, leopards and four-horned deer. Tamia is another beautiful place that one can visit. It is about 78 kilometres from Pachmarhi. If you want to extend your Pachmarhi tour, you can visit Bhopal and Bhimbetka. Bhimbetka is popular for the 600 rock shelters and paintings on the caves.

Pachmarhi- Adventure Sports

Pachmarhi is an excellent place to take long walks. There are a number of options for you to choose from. Take a leisurely stroll to Jata Shanker cave or just walk up to Chauragarh. Adventure lovers can trek in the woods in the Satpura range.

Passport / Visa / Insurance / Traveler Cheques / Médical Information

Passport
• Passport should be valid at least 6 months from the date of travel
• Emigration Check Not Required (ECNR) stamp on the Passport is now no longer required except if traveling on work permit
Visa
• Visa is required for most countries and most of them are taken before departure, unless it is visa on arrival
• Medical vaccination may be required if traveling to Africa, South America
Insurance
• Overseas Medical Insurance is important (mandatory for some countries) and must be taken before departure.

Tips
• Make photocopies of Passport details (personal information & photograph) and Visas.
Keep one copy in hand baggage & one copy in Checked-in baggage just in case.
• If traveling to U.S, please provide to the Airlines in advance full address during stay in the U.S and country of residence
Seat
• Request your seat preference in advance. However some airlines only allow at the airport.
Meal
• Request your meal preference in advance.
• Meal requests are not entertained within 48-24 hours
Hand Baggage
• No liquids of any type are permitted in hand baggage other than the following items: -
- Essential medicines in liquid form sufficient for the flight (e.g. diabetic kit)
- Baby milk and liquid baby food sufficient and essential for the flight.
(The contents of each bottle or jar must be tasted by the accompanying passenger

AT THE AIRPORT

• After baggage security, proceed to the Airline counter
• Show your ticket & Passport and place your check-in baggage on the scales

• The check-in desk will handover Boarding Pass, Baggage tag coupons for Checked-in baggage,

Melkote important pilgrim center that is close to Mysore is Melkote or Tirunarayanapuram. Melkote is about 60kms from Mysore city and is located in a hilly region that comprises some of the oldest rock formations on earth. Cradled in the middle of these hills is the temple town of Melkote.

Nanjangud is popular excursion from Mysore city is Nanjangud. Nanjangud is 25kms from Mysore. It is a holy place because of the Nanjundeswara or Srikanteswara temple.
Shravanabelagola Shravanabelagola is a place worth visiting while at Mysore. Shravanabelagola is famous for the monolith of Bahubali or Gommateshwara. There are two stony hills called Chandragiri and Indragiri. Chandragiri is famous for the Chandragupta Basadi built by the Gangas. Indragiri is famous for the Chavendaraya Basadi and the gigantic statue of Gommateshwara.

Shivanasamudra Travel Shivanasamudra is about 85kms to the east of Mysore. At Shivanasamudra the river Cauvery cascades down a deep rocky gorge in two breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls.

Somnathpur Temple Somnathpur is a small village on the banks of the river Cauvery that was founded by the commander of the Hoyasala army, Somnath. The village is famous for its splendid and grand Keshava temple that has been built in the Hoyasala style.

Talakad is situated on the banks of the river Cauvery, near Mysore and is known for its sand dunes. There are a number of temples on the banks of the Cauvery in Talakad that are buried under the sand .

Ooty

•Also known as Udhagamandalam is the "Queen of hill stations" and the capital of Nilgiris district. It is one of the most popular tourist resorts in India. Nilgiris means "Blue Mountains". It is a land of picturesque picnic spots. Used to be popular summer and weekend getaway for the Britishers during the colonial days. It is situated at an altitude of 2,240 meters above sea level. An added attraction for the tourists to Udagamandalam is the mountain train journey on a ratchet and pinion track which commences from Kallar, near Mettupalayam and wends its way through many hair-raising curves and fearful tunnels and chugs along beside deep ravines full of verdant vegetation, gurgling streams and tea gardens. This morning you will enjoy a tour of the ‘Queen of the Blue Mountains’ that includes a visit to Dodabetta peak for a spectacular view. Continue driving to Coonoor and visit Sim’s park, Dolphins Nose point and a tea plantation. Return to Ooty and you can visit the Botanical garden and also walk along the popular Ooty lake Enjoy a boat ride on Ooty Lake

Kodaikanal

Means the “Gift Of the Forest” situated among the pallani hills . It is one of the unexplored destination of southan India. In Kodaikanal visiting the ancient Kurinji Andavar temple, St. Peters Church, the Bear- Shola Falls - a popular picnic spot and Pillar rocks. In the afternoon spend some time in Bryant Park and enjoy boating on the beautiful Kodai Lake.
